Motörhead - Ace of Spades. Which edition?
« on: 2 Apr 2009, 03:56 pm »
Recently caught the Motorhead bug and looking to dig a little deeper than the "Best of" edition my local library had on hand.

Curious if there is any consensus or recommendations on which CD release of "Ace of Spades" is preferred for best sound quality/reissue? I was rather surprised to see 10 different CD releases available in addition to a DVD-Audio version. I could even manage to go the DVD-A route if that is the cats meow.

The DVD-A sounds really nice.  And the Silverline offering serves up the best version of "Louie Louie" that I've ever heard.  Let's not kid ourselves, we've not getting "Jazz at the Pawnshop" RQ here but the DVD-A sounds great relative to any Motorhead CD I've heard.

That big black 180 gr seedee is really cool.  You are right, that is the one I really want.  A couple of years ago my kids came home from an elementary school music class asking me about the big black cds' the music teacher was spinning on this little suitcase thingy...they had never seen an analog set up before.  I wish I was still spinning the wax, but had to give it up with kids and cats bouncing around.

Thanks for the feedback, I start looking for the Silverline edition.  I also just noticed a deluxe remaster (santuary?) I'll keep an eye open for as well.
