PMC SPEAKER BREAK-IN TECHNIQUE
« on: 1 Apr 2009, 06:18 pm »
Hi all

I thought I would relay some helpful guidance that I received from PMC, regarding the running in of your NEW speakers, when I bought the OB1's.... I guess this would apply to all their models with forward firing ports........

Quote

"Your OB1's should take 20-30 hours to run in.
They will sound a little constricted at first but should loosen up during the running in period.
Before we send speakers for review, we play some music with serious low frequency on them for a few days at moderate level.
Firstly, play the selected music and set the volume at normal listening level, then place the speakers towards each other with the plinths almost touching. Turn the amp off and reverse the speaker cables on one of your OB1's which will make them operate out of phase.
Turn your amp back on and the speakers should play but with little or no bass to irritate the rest of the household.
You can now leave them playing during the few days needed to run them in.
Of coarse, you could always just listen to music knowing that your OB1's are going to get even better as the weeks go by !
Thanks for your e-mail.
I'm sure your OB1's will give you many hours of listening pleasure.
Kind regards
Tom Baron"

Good advise that works, but If anyone else has suggestions on this subject, feel free to post.......

Thanks

The only thing I have to add to that is some people put a blanket over the speakers during the above mentioned process to be nicer to their neighbors.

If you have a mono switch/button on your preamp, engage it for even better cancellation.
