FS: Zapfilter 2 - SOLD
« on: 1 Apr 2009, 01:59 pm »
I have a used LC Audio Zapfilter 2 in excellent shape. I pulled it out of a project after using it for only 2 weeks. I am willing to sell this, since I have no other project to use it in right now.

These go for $215 new at Partsconnexion.com, plus shipping. I'm willing to let it go for $160, shipping included in the lower 48. PayPal will need to add another 3%. I will take a check, but will wait for that to clear before shipping.

Please send me an e-mail or PM if you are interested.

Thanks,
Bob

Anybody try installing one of these into a transporter?

If you're using the Transporter's internal DAC chip then it shouldn't be any different from putting it in a CD player or DAC. You would just need the room to mount it.

It would probably work well in a Transporter, just be sure to configure the ZapFilter for a voltage out DAC. If you *very* carefully remove the SMT caps in the TP there is a handy solder point for the DAC output.

How thick is that transformer?  Wondering if it will fit inside the Transporter chassis.

The transformer looks bigger in the pictures than it is in real life. I would say it's about 2" in diameter and maybe 1.5" high, using an eyeball measure.

The power supply board it is attached to may be about 2" wide by about 4-5" long. The audio output board is bigger, maybe 3" wide by 7" long, again using an eyeball measure.

Please let me know if you're interested in trying it out.

Thanks,
Bob

Hmmm...
I could probably stuff this inside my Rotel 1072...

I'm not an experienced moder, Bob, but I did manage to install an LCAudio clock in a Rotel 971 and it didn't blow up.

Any idea on the skill level required (or on your willingness to answer dumb questions from a fellow NYAR'r)
Could it be installed outside the box if there's no room?

Thanks

-Mike

Wondering if it will fit inside the Transporter chassis.

I have one of these as well and it would easily fit inside a Transporter.

It's very straightforward to hook up the power - just connect it directly where the AC comes into the unit.

The DAC hookup is a little less straightforward, but not difficult. You will need the datasheet on the DAC chip (easily obtained on the web via a search) to find out the L +/- and R +/- pin locations. then you need to trace these on the board to find the first possible place to connect the Zapfilter to. You may need a magnifying glass and good light, but not all that difficult overall. You also need to know if the DAC chip is voltage or current output type and set the "solder bubbles" on the Zapfilter accordingly. That info will be on the datasheet also.

Then its just mounting in the chassis and hooking it up to the output jacks. Both RCA and balanced connections are supported. I know LC Audio is very supportive of the product and answers questions easily. I'll certainly help where I can.

I've now had 2 offers from Europe and 1 from Australia. I am really trying to avoid the hassle of international shipping and currency conversion. So someone here in the US please pick up this great output stage at a really great price or I'll have to make some overseas chap very happy.
