Nikon D700
« on: 1 Apr 2009, 08:07 am »
Well I started a thread on the Canon 5D, but in the end couldn't get one, so we now have Nikon D700. Picked it up yesterday, but..............we wanted a good lens for it (well several, but funds don't allow all at this time), .................have to wait 3 weeks for the lens. Nikor 24-70 f2.8 ED, so we are going have to buy a 50mm prime so we can take a few shots going

I will post some images as soon as I can take some :thumb:

The Nikon D700 is an excellent choice! I saw some shots taken by my brother on his D700 and they were very crisp, skin tones were natural and colours were well saturated! I have the D90 myself and am very happy with the camera. I can imagine how much better the D700 is!

Enjoy your camera and be patient with the lenses!

Best Regards
Dennis

Id be looking at fast primes to play to the strong points of the d700... A nice f1.4  85mm/ 35mm/ 50mm lens set plus your high iso performance will really kick arse :)

Picking a 50mm f1.4 prime tomorrow. Had at least to get a lens for it, and we will always use a fixed 50mm. :D

Also just ordered a battery grip. Takes the camera from 5FPS to 8FPS. pretty awesome for a FF sensor  :thumb:

you'll find you need the fastest SD / CF cards to get those frame rates.

Nice lens Werticus., Yes I would like some more prime lenses. Maybe an 80 and a 135 would suit what I need.

I only do primes - i found that with any zoom i tend to use it full out of full in only anyway :)

plus the weight advantage is important to me.

also having a fixed focal length makes you better at composition because you need to think more about that aspect.

You might also consider Nikon 300 f4 AFS (+ TC 1.4 ot TC 1.7) with d700 which are an excellent combo for whom who wants to sports and wildlife.

All I need now then is the D700

J/K actually I'm pretty happy with what I've got, what I'm not happy with is the time I have to use it

If I get down for that coffee some time John I will bring the D700 along for you to have a play with.

We still have lots of lenses to get, but work is a bit slow at the moment, so they will have to wait, besides I want to get another imac next week

I used to have the best primes:
1) 85 1.4 for portrait
2) 60 2.8G AFS for portrait and macro
3) 300 f4 AFs for wildlife and birding

But now I own these lenses are perfect math for my d700:
1) 24-70 2.8 AFS excellent for walk-around
2) 70-200 2.8G VR AFS for candids, wildlife, portrait, etc...
3) 70-300  4.5-5.6 VR for light weight walk around...

I noticed at church this morning, the 70-200 2.8 seems to pull in more light than the 24-70 2.8, not sure why, but thats what I think. It was very low light
