Difference in power amps
« on: 30 Mar 2009, 05:31 pm »
I have a mch2-5 power amp and I am thinking of upgrading to the mch3-7 se. How much better is it for the outlay and what kind of improvements will I get? Your help would be very welcome.

This is equivalent to upgrading from Ref 8.5V2 (200W) to Ref 9V2SE (300W, SE cap board). The improvement is significant and most of the Ref 9SEV2 reviews mentioned the difference between Ref 9V2SE and Ref 9V2.

Unfortunately MCH-2C5 can only be upgraded to MCH-3C7 (equivalent to Ref 9V2) but not MCH-3SEC7 (this top of the line MCH requires a new front panel with remote control logic). Therefore the labor cost of changing from MCH-2C or MCH-3C to MCH-3SEC7 is too high (have to take everything apart and put them back) you would be better off selling it and buy a new unit.

Would that give then just more channels and not more performance.

I was told when I bought this unit I could make it to the top of the range amp.

Upgrading from MCH-2C5 to MCH-3C7 will increase the power and channels.
It is still possible to upgrade MCH-3C7 with the SE cap board but without the remote control capability of MCH-3SEC7.
If your dealer gave you the wrong information, we can make a custom upgrade for you. Please contact us directly when you decide to upgrade and we'll figure out the upgrade price for the non standard configuration.

Thanks Jason
I will keep that in mind. It is the sound that is my priority not a remote. I am used to the way my power amp works anyway. Love your products!! Having a great time with my music now!! Thanks Again
