The BEST Bedroom System In California??
« on: 27 Mar 2009, 08:47 pm »
I recently helped a client of mine set up what might be the best "Bedroom" audio system in California.

In his bedroom, we assembled the following:

Mains: Pair of RM v60 speakers (now biamped as below)
Sub: Single VSS with 1000w amp
Source: OPPO DVD player
DAC: BRYSTON BDA-1
Preamp: Stan Warren
AMP: Tweets and Mids = Special Stan Warren Model
AMP: Woofers = Wyred for Sound

I had to leave before it was well dialed in and for the last week he has been tweeking, but it is hard to imagine a system in a BedRoom that would exceed the capabilities of this one.

Actually it is a rather "modest" size.  If I had to guess, maybe 15w x 18d x 9h.

I'll see if he has a digital camera.

THAT IS his main system.  He is planning on moving in the future to "bigger digs" and this was a pre-emptive purchase.

The rest of his apartment is already "boxed up" with boxes to the ceiling.

Nice, wouldn't mind listening to that setup, but I think I'd submit my bedroom system up for that Award   Of course mine would feature another factor which I think is going to become big in this new financial age we're living in.   I can do it, and I can do it for a lot less is going to be the battle cry for the new age audiophile.   I'm just about done with my bedroom system, with the help of B, I think it approaches my mega buck system of my glory years of overspending on audio components.    I have a lot of thought to give to this idea before I put my stamp of approval on it.   I know you get what you pay for, but there are way's to take certain well made components in to the overachievement class.   B's Jr's are a standout with this ability.   My bedroom system is a combo stereo/Blu-Ray HT.   Home Theater with the new lossless audio formats compares nicely to CD systems for overall fidelity.   Combining the two types of audio systems, and making it fit into the new affordable class of system is the trick.   I'll go into all the details of what I did, what I discovered and the end result in an article scheduled for publishing in Positive Feedback in a few weeks.   Enjoy the music my brothers!

"modest sized" bedroom...a bit of an understatement.
Nice system....I 'm sure he'll be enjoying his time in there.

I have a modest bedroom system Ayre Integrated, Ayre Universal
and Selah SSR or Garnets...augmented with 2 DIY sealed subs.

Since this is a VPMS circle  an aquaintance has a nice bedroom
system.  And his "modest room" is 16X19X10 :D  His also is a modest
VPMS Triaural system with the 626s purchased in TX, sgl large sub
Classe electronics with HT Bypass.  It like wise does HT/music duties.
His plasma is high up on the wall.  His tall bed allows for the sub to placed
underneath the bed...and good sight lines for the Plasma. I'm surprised
that more people haven't used the Triaural box.  It works nicely.
(he 'upgraded' form B&W monitors...he never looked back)

John,I have seen accounts of RM v60 speakers used in much larger venues than the size of bedroom mentioned in the post. From the WE DID IT thread it appears that the RMv60s will easily fill a room 7 times or more larger than the 15ft.x18ft.x9ft. bedroom. At what point is a room too small for RM v60s to be used successfully?

If you damp the wall behind the wings to cut down on reflected energy I could recommend the V60 in a space as small as 10x10x8ftt.  The SDE version works best as it has 6 bands of parametric EQ which will tame the primary room modes.

A single pair of V60 with four VSS in full dipole configuration provided live sound levels in our 28x38x17' ballroom this past CES, and we're doing it again next January!
