Using such an IC eliminates the need for an adapter which has potential to degrade the signal. Clayton's work on the cables is superb and I was very pleasantly surprised by their build quality and transparency. Way off the charts in value IMO.

Much cyberink has been spilled about them on this site and others, with two excellent professional reviews (Robert Greene in TAS and the late great John Potis, who was known for telling it like it is), so have fun doing your research!
