Getting recorded audio into a Mac
« on: 18 Mar 2009, 04:25 pm »
All I want to do is to dump the contents of a little digital voice recorder that does not have a computer port into my Mac (that does not have an audio in port) to save the recording.

The voice recorder has a 3.5mm analog headphone out minijack.  The Mac of course has both USB and Firewire in.  OS1.4x

What is the minimum hardware, cables, and or software I will need to do this?  To me iTunes is a confusing nightmare to use.

Any help with this out there.

I do own a Canopus ADVC-100 video and audio A to D and D to A converter, which Canopus tells me I must have connected to a VHS video in, while connecting the voice recorder to the audio in, and then from the digital out from the Canapus to a USB in on the Mac.  I can try that, but what software do I need to actually make the recording on the Mac?

Thanks for your attention. I would really like to dump the voice recorder as soon as possible so it can be reused.

This new fangled stuff is getting beyond me.

A 3.5mm M-M from your recorder to the line in on your Mac, and Audacity will do the job.

Thanks for your help.

Audacity and a 3.5mm connection cable, one end mono, the other stereo, did the trick.

That will now let me get audio from any old audio source into the Mac in a useable format.
