How do these compare to the Google Android G1, and the G2 that is coming out about the same time at the iPhone
3.0?  Are they competitive?

A lot of people look at the G1 as competition to the iPhone, when it really isn't...its more targeted to compete against Windows Mobile devices. Android as a platform has a huge upside but it isn't close to 'there' yet. I've used the G1 a bit and it feels clunky and "last gen" compared to an iPhone. The iPhone ain't perfect but I honestly haven't tried anything else that can top it, overall.

Toka has experience that I don't have - so I will defer to him. I just want this upgrade to get here soon!

I have a G1 and an iPhone 3G. Both are quite nice, but I find that I use the iPhone far more often. The G1's keyboard makes entering text much easier (although the G2 will not have a keyboard, just an onscreen keyboard like the iPhone), but I find that most other things just seem to be easier to do on the iPhone. Web browsing is just barely usable on either one, but the "pinch" for zooming in and out on the iPhone is much more natural than the method on the G1. I've seen a preview of the new software for the G2, but it still isn't quite as simple as the iPhone.

Nice.  Has anyone upgraded to iPhone 3.0 yet?
