What is a "Bump"
« on: 18 Mar 2009, 01:24 am »
Every so often, I see a post with the one word, 'bump.'
Whatever does it mean, Dr.Audio?

1.  A post to bring the topic back up to the list of topics with recent postings.  Done so to gain attention to the post.

2.  It also means something else, completely unrelated to audio.

It works with for sell listings too. Every time you want your ad to show in the most recent topics (1st page) use the bump.
Simply type "bump" of something similar to let the others know that it is still available or just to move it to the front where it will be more visible.  :thumb:

A 'bump' is a good way to not endear yourself to other forum participants. (Just like this. )

IMHO, threads that have dropped off the front page are no longer timely or interesting to the general forum populace, and are best left for research purposes.

I can't agree with that, on a busy site like this they will drop off in a matter of hours.

Plus posting in an old but well established thread helps prevent the same folks who continually repeat themselves by answering questions on the same subject. All too often the same topic question will be brought up again and again, like every other month or so.  This can get old for some and could easily be prevented if someone with a question would do a simple search on the topic first and then post in that thread. It not only helps them but everyone in general. :D

Cheers,
Robin
