Channel Islands VMB1s: now only $400!!!!
« on: 16 Mar 2009, 08:16 pm »
These are the now discontinued VMB1s:  40w of chip amp magic, with a big beefy power supply.

I've loved these for years, and wish I could keep them, but it's hard to justify having an extra pair of amps lying around when times are tight.  So, I'm now all SET, and the solid state amps, no matter how nice, will have to go.

Here are a couple of pictures:

.

Cosmetically, the amps are in excellent condition.  I'd use an Audiogon 8 rating, due mainly to the fact that they're now about 7 years old.  They still sound wonderful, though.  One of the things that astonished me was how dynamic they sound at very low volumes.

The amps are very sensitive.  They reach full output with an input of much less than 1v, so they work well with passive preamps.  I used mine with a very low gain octal-tubed preamp, and the music was always lively, engaging and energetic.

I have the excellent original packaging from Channel Islands.

I'm asking $400 for these amps, plus shipping (from ZIP code 48103) and Paypal fees.

Man, I would love to have these.
Just can't do it right now. :nono:

It is too bad CI doesn't make anything in this pricepoint anymore.
Best of luck with your sale.  :thumb:

I love my VMB-1's, they all around beat the previous amp (Clari-T).  I buy them in a heart beat at this price, but don't need another pair with single driver speakers.  As I recall, they're rated input for full output is 0.6 volts, and you're right they work great with my Channel Islands Audio passive pre-amp.  (Chip amps are known to mate especially well single driver speakers.)

Ditto, I wish Channel Islands could offer cheaper amps.

What a freakin deal!!!

If I hadn't just bought two amps to bi-amp with... It's still tempting just to hear them.

Somebody grab these and end my temptation.
