Just wanted to drop a note here that we are becoming a distributor for Auralex Acoustics.  We will be adding products over the next several weeks but just wanted to drop a note here on Market Square.

I feel that room acoustics is one of the great missed opportunities for most audio systems.  It is a shame to see people spend many thousands of dollars on equipment and totally neglect their room.

Part of our goals is to offer design help where we can make some suggestions for the most cost effective solutions.  Auralex makes some wonderful room packages that are not only cost effective but attractive also.

Take a look....

You're correct that it's a shame people neglect their rooms. I believe part of it is ignorance of the improvements that can be made. Until I put in my treatments I had no idea how cost effective they are.  It's a subject that certainly needs more attention. Cheers

Some Pictures.

Absorption via Atom-12 system using corner bass traps integrated with a corner 12" corner fill cube.  Very effective and classy looking installation with a total cost of $329 plus shipping for the entire 4 corner solution.

Here is an effective room wall/ceiling treatment that is cost effective and attractive and compliments the Atom-12 system.  They can be used in corners as effective bass absorption devices and on the walls for as broadband absorption devices.  Each is 16" x 24"  (w x l) and a 24 unit package cost $299 plus shipping.

You need a combination of absorption and diffusion in a room to achieve the right balance.   Diffusion helps spread sound in a room diffusing standing waves without removing energy content from a room.  Rooms that are highly absorptive often sound dead or unemotional.  Rooms with the right balance of diffusion and absorption often have much wider sweet spots, and a much more open sounding room.  Small rooms will sound large and larger rooms sound larger.

T-Fusor Package of four ($199 plus shipping).  These call also be installed tastefully with some absorption devices to maximum effect.

Auralex has many more offerings and these are just a taste of their overall product line.   We are jazzed to be handling the line!

Cool, I hope the prices are competitve.  Although I can't quite understand why this stuff costs what it does I will say that Auralex's foam is cut precisely.  If you want stuff that can butt up against one another seamlessly they seem to be the best choice.  Comparatively, something from say foambymail.com is cut for crap.  I mean, it's the same material, works the same, but the cuts are sloppy and uneven.  This sort of limits the patterns you can make, well unless you don't care if it looks uneven.  They also take the quick 'n dirty approach to shipping - you'll get a big amorphous wad of vacuum-packed cardboard and plastic wrap whereas Auralex comes in boxes.

Auralex also makes the nicest smelling product literature I've encountered.  The last one I had smelled like tea leaves, it was quite nice.

Can a person still get Mega LENRDs by chance?  I'd also like to get my hands on some DST-Rs.  (my hot wire styrofoam DIY project fell on its face :( )

Should I even ask why you were sniffing the literature?  :P   Anyway, I do hope the pricing isn't too obscene.  That's some nice looking stuff, so besides the sound improvements it should add some class to my rather, uh, "utilitarian" bedroom system.
