Thanks to GIK I have added a bunch of treatments, including custom 3 foot triangle traps to sit on top of the 4 foot traps. BIG improvements, finally tamed the sound in my echo chamber! Now I need to put my sub back in the system, a REL B2, and would like any and all advice.

The cluster of three traps in the corner by the door is temporary, when I get a bit more finalized regarding speaker placement, I'll probably put a 242 on the ceiling and figure out where to put the other bass trap.

My tools include a RS Digital SPL meter, the "Sneakers" soundtrack which has a low pitched sound recommended by REL, the Rives Test Disk which generates different frequency tones.

Thanks. Never took the screens off. Frank Van Alstine has the Audio Basics writeup about screen removal, Plasticlay, etc. I know Mark Funk has naked Dahlquists. It's my man cave but a little WAF goes a long way right now. I sneak the mods in gradually whenever possible.

.....That picture shows really nice pieces of accessory. Aesthetically pleasing to me. I would describe it as sonic furniture, yet they are still items of audio engineering..components. It would be nice to have disposable income that I may dispose to various sound absorption or diffraction, but alas..I hold monetary importance to earning the highest degree of education that I can absorb. In the meantime I have to make do with clever DIY pieces. What about the Styrofoam packing found in most of the products I purchase?
     One may study the various shapes that this packaging exhibits..and think about the physical qualities they possess. Further thoughts brought back a visualization of those devices and then questions of their footprint....in my small room where every inch of space must serve a purpose. The corners of the room are the dominant culprits to the standing wave phenomenon. Would it be feasible to fashion instruments that may emulate at least a portion of those appealing panels qualities? And utilize even more precious living/ listening room area? And appear to be a artwork or sculpture of sorts? And and and?
     Having a living room built in 1909 and fairly small, I had difficulty with more than standing waves standing beside the 3/4" age cured plaster before they went on a repercussive adventure finally arriving at my ears. Three large windows of double hung sash presented rebounding voyages to rival. My Altec Lancings fed their desires to explore regions only traversed by the denizen arachnids. I had to do something as my own quest for a furlough to pleasurable modulations had to be effectuated.
     It was worth the time and non expenditure....and looked good! Thoughts evoked research which in turn brought forth a feasibility study that proved that the repetitive protuberances that most electronic Styrofoam packaging had could be re manufactured and sculpted into corner columns and door lintel extensions. This was the most dominant area in my living room that could be utilized. It worked!
     Careful listening sessions elated me to an extent. A few hours time, a trip to the attic, and a little spray paint color coordinated to my decor solved a major sonic issue. I prefer, most of the time, my music played at live levels. I have the wattage and the drivers to produce decibel ratings that the neighbors down the street enjoy along with me. I have blues rockers, jazz, classical, and heavy metal lovers surrounding my home. I invite one to take a piece of this substance and just look at it..........and critically think about it.

Hola. It's been a while, but I haven't forgotten about posting some pictures of the unique DIY sound absorbent artistic blocks I fabricated. I will be moving to a new home after my injury recovery and before I transfer to a new university in August. I hope to post the prototypes I tacked up shortly. I will be using all the Styrofoam I've saved for packing my vintage radios and phonographs. The stereo components packing materials are in the original boxes awaiting repacking.  ....that is not shocking to the eye!     This was a little difficult for me, but I always do what I say regardless.
    I just was surfing the site last night to add this picture and also discovered that Orthobiz's pictures of his room treatments are gone! They sure were beautiful looking!
    As I'm in college at 55 years old full time and permanently multiple-disabled, now with another short term injury/disability to add to my portfolio, I thought I'd find this picture in my disc files and send it along.
    I take the Styrofoam packaging in shipping cartons and find pleasing ways to reduce the standing waves so prevalent in my tiny living room. This was the first experiment. I tacked the blocks with 16d nails into the gaps between the molding and wall. I did this to all the door openings and window openings. Careful listening before and after this no-buck project confirmed their usefulness. The music cleaned up.
     The listening arrangement of my living room leaves a lot to be desired, but I've done the best I can with a small 16' x 18' 1909 plaster room with a popcorned ceiling. My components are located on the short wall in a solid oak refinished/redesigned cabinet, 20 degrees off axis to the wall, biased to the right center of the wall (door opening requires this). The Altec Lancing Model 14's are 7' apart toed in at 10 degrees off axis to the cabinet's front plane.
     When I am moved and have my supply of Styrofoam back I intend to take this project further. I have sketches of some Styrofoam artwork that I will add to the vertical corners and other areas of the room. Oil painting and some airbrush work will adorn the treatments. I want them to appear to my guests as art.
