Ok, here's the story. My dad was friends with one of the original Linaeum guys here in Portland. For Christmas (circa 1994), my dad was given a pair of the LS2 speakers.  He's kept them all these years, and was using them up until a month ago. They sound great (but, to be fair, I am to an audophile what a tee-ball kid is to Derek Jeter)

Work fine, look great (a little chipping of the paint on one corner). Serial number is 2-0305. 40-inch stands, 9inch deep, 11-inch across. Very solid. Black.

This isn't so much a "for sale" ad, as a "how much are these worth"?  It looks like they were selling for about $900 at the time my dad was given them, but I'm sure the value is less than 1/2 that now.

Any help?  I'm out in Portland, and would strike a deal if anyone is interested.

Here is some information LINK

bowser1972,

You'll see the last post in that link on the Linaeum LS2's was from me (my only post ever at AudioKarma.org...tho I lurk occasionally)

My everyday speakers are Linaeums and I am thrilled with them.  You may well be, too....but these Linaeums need gentle mods to make a them a great speaker...especially stiffening up their cheap cabinets.

Yeah, I'm sure they're great speakers. But my dad really just wants them out of his house, so his only interest is selling them. I'm just trying to get an idea of what they're worth so i don't waste my time on craigslist or e-bay with a price that's completely out of wack. thanks for the responses.

Yep, that's the one.

Except I have 2 of them. Ha!!!

Ha, I thought I was the only person left who still had a pair of these kicking around.  Back when I ran a brick and mortar shop, I used to be a dealer for Linaeum.

I should pull them out of storage and give them a listen.  It's been years.

Thanks for the blast from the past.

Peace,

Lee

For what its worth, Echo Audio has had a pair for sale for a long time. Maybe a year. You can get an idea of what they are asking for theirs, just visit www.echohifi.com You may not know it, but they are based in Portland too.

FYI, you will probably do better with your local (Portland) craigslist.

I don't have specifics on the LS2 - my son bought a pair after I got my LT1000 speakers. They use essentially the same drivers. The LS2 are smaller and ported, and the LT1000 are transmission line cabinets.

The crossovers are pretty different (based on the photos posted earlier). The LT1000 were specified as crossing over at 400Hz; but my measurements (with REW) show the acoustic crossover was at ~485Hz. The TLS tweeter is much more efficient than the Vifa woofer - like a LOT more efficient.

I have replaced the Vifa woofer with a really good unit by Dayton Audio - it is just 0.1 gram heavier cone (23.6 grams vs 23.5) and a much more powerful magnet. And I am using a miniDSP 2x4HD as an active crossover, set at 440Hz.
