The Panasonic/Lumix DMC-GH1 was announced at PMA last week.

With a new 14-140mm F4.0-5.8 kit lens (designed for HD video)

This looks interesting... anyone use the previous model - DMC-G1?  Comments?

The Micro four thirds design looks promising and keeps the size down.  I've been considering the Nikon D90 for a while now, but have held off due to price and size/weight.  I have no investment in C/N lenses. I am not a pro and can live with the current limited lenses offered for the GH1.  Besides this design claims use of any 3rd party 4/3 lenses and/or use of adapter rings.

Looks like a May 09 release and sub $1K prices with the new 14-140 kit lens.

I tried the G1 in a store and couldn't bring myself to like it at all. The EVF - despite the claimed advances - just wasn't right to me. Perhaps I should have not tried to use it like an SLR? It was expensive too. Personally I would be inclined to get a D60 (or the Sony or Canon equivalent) if you want to take photographs.

I know it's very bad of me to be down on a camera I've never seen or used... maybe I just want to see u4/3 stop pretending to be an SLR (or a video camera  ) and figure out how to be unique - which the whole design principle should allow.

Yikes looks like they are targeting $1499 list on this on per a few post on dpreview forums.

if your German is any good, here's a post...

That's a buzz kill and seems like stiff competition from C/N in the same price range.

well im not excited at that price, and the kit lens is dull.

but the movie features are pretty cool, and the rear lcd is nice.

and more choice is good!

The US price is confirmed now at $1499.  I think they may have a hard sell at that price point given you can get into a D90 or 40D/50D with some upgraded glass for the same price.

The size of the GH1 is appealing for travel, especially with the 14-140 lens.  Some reports say the battery is weak given that it's powering the EV all the time.

Remember this is not a DSLR, it's EVIL - Electronic viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens
