While I agree, SWMBO does not. We live in New York. Having one in my apartment is viewed as an accommodation by her. So I am stuck with 1.
The Rythmik/Songsub will probably best the HSU in sound quality, sure, but you'll notice a much bigger difference if it's EQ'd. I am with Terry on this one; do yourself a favor and pick up a Behringer Feedback Destroyer. It'll cost you $100 or less and you'll be able to hear what a good subwoofer can really do. If your PC doesn't have a suitable soundcard and you want to run REW, you'll have to get an external soundcard with at least one input and output. You can find some decent and cheap ones online.Do let us know how that sweet subwoofer sounds. Knowing Jim, he'll tweak it for ya. Enjoy!
why does "swmbo" have such a similarity to "bimbo"? hmmmm.... doug s.

Just read up quickly on the unit but had a couple Q's. Are you using this for subwoofer only or other purposes? And would this be active or passive installation? Thanks, Nuance.John

I thought SWMBO lived here with me, but she must commute to New York when I am not paying attention. (BTW, my SWMBO, a graduate of a top-tier law school, is not a bimbo, and she would rip the heart out, in a nice ladylike way, of course, of any man who called her such.)
i quit lie, uh, i mean law school in the middle of my second year, thank god. doug s.

I was taught that lying is forbidden and is grounds for disbarment. Obviously, your dropping out of law school was a good decision.

As some of you know, I have been enamored with my Songtowers and surrounds. However, I have not had an easy time getting my subwoofer to blend well with these speakers. I have been using a Hsu VTF-2 first generation. So I went into the market to look for a new sub. I looked at spending about $1000-1300 total. I looked into the usual suspects, including HSU, SVS, Rythmik and the SongSub. Well, after reading reviews, I thought that the answer for my space was the Rythmik or the Song. I do have to say that I had a bad experience with SVS in the past, so that weighed a bit on my decision. I was curious about the songsub, especially because it would match my speakers, but it had no reviews. I emailed back and forth with Jim, and he told me that he had planned on building a sub with Rythmik's design to evaluate their product design, etc. If I was interested he would order the internals from Rythmik based on the woofer size I wanted and build the sub in the cherry veneer of my speakers. Needless to say, i was floored. Jim is building a down firing 15" from the Rythmik design for me. Not sure if he will be tweaking it at all(though knowing how Jim operates, I am sure that the design will be reviewed and tweaked if he thinks it merits it), but I am floored to take delivery. Not sure when that will happen, but I cannot wait.Shawn
This is being used only on the subwoofer (I didn't get the more expensive unit, so I can't EQ my entire system with it...nor would I, but that's a different topic). The BFD is active and sets the filters which allow the sub to be EQ'd as flat as you can get it. You can do auto filters or manual filters if using REW (Room EQ Wizard).Hope that helps. Feel free to PM me if you do go this route, and I will try to help you through it (I just learned the whole process myself this week, and the sound difference is AMAZING).
