How Do 12 volt triggers work?
« on: 9 Dec 2003, 08:47 pm »
I have a receiver that has a 12 volt trigger. The manual says that when the amp is de-activated, a 12v pot difference appears across the terminals of the trigger (say if you only want to use the pre-out). However, I've seen postings that seem to say that you can de-activate a receiver's amp by applying 12v across the trigger. Can somebody provide some clarification?

Much obliged.

a 12v trigger is either set up to send or receive....

some work both ways.... they can send or receive.....

basically... most receivers that have a 12v trigger will send out a 12v signal to other components that "receive" this signal and power up or power down..(whatever the receiver is doing).....

in essence...when you turn your receiver on.... the connected equipment will also turn on... the same thing happens when you shut off your receiver, the connected equipment will shut off....

the best way to implement this feature into your system is to hook your 12v trigger into a surge protector/line conditioner that will receive the 12v signal.... you plug all of your components into this unit and by turning your receiver on  - your entire system powers up....

i have a Surge-X  SX1115RT  rack mount unit that has this feature....

other companies offer the same feature... i used to have a monster power HTS 2500 that did the same thing....
