Newbie multimeter recommendation

Hey all those electronic gurus out there,
I'm looking to dive head on into the world of diy audio, and am trying to make a decision on which multimeter to buy.  The number of different types of multimeters out there is just stupifying.   So my questions are, what features do I REALLY need, and should I just get an el cheapo with a gazillion different functions, or should I buy one of the nicer but more expensive ones?  Any help I can get is appreciated.

if you are new to the field of electronics...just get yourself a low cost digital multimeter....

you can find them for about $20...

it will do almost anything you need to do right now....

if you get furthur into the field you might want to upgrade in the future...but this will give you a good start....
