Frank, is the shielding for the transformer useful at all, I don't supposed you suggested it? Also, did you design a solid state power supply for this, since the rectifier tube is missing?

Well geeze, I do use four big blue caps on each Ultimate 70 rebuild. That must be the reason the sound so good.
Or - - - could it just possibly their electrical VALUE and how they are integrated into the circuit taking all the pole points needed into consideration.

I hope you didn't just go down to the hardware store and buy some latex paint. That will give it a "rubbery" sound. You need to score some NOS Sherwin-Williams oil based paint with the "cover the earth" logo embossed on the bottom of the paint can. It may be pricey, but you get what you pay for.
