Aksa 100 W nirvana (bumping)
« on: 9 Dec 2003, 06:25 am »
I have finished assemblying the Aksa 100 Nirvana.
Al measurements was ok and the bias regulation too, but when I put it to
work a strange thing happened  :o only on one channel :o :
- when I switch on there is double bump (one little followed by another
bigger)
- when I switch off there is a double bump (the contrary of the switching
on: one bigger followed by another little)
- when I listen at low volume everithing is ok
- when I listen to higher volume it start bumping with regular frequence(the more the volume the more the bumps)

I tried to switch the power supply cables between right and left channel and the problem is always on the same channel (so the power supply is ok)

Any idea?

Hi Renzo,

I don't believe I've ever seen this fault.

As I mentioned earlier, check the earths are correct at power and signal inputs.

Next would be to examine the power connections to the drivers and the inner output devices.

Then check each resistor on the pcb by color code to ensure it is the right size.

Final step would be to disconnect the module, send it to me.  Half way from Italy to Australia, it will realise it's mistake, and, terrified, probably correct itself before it ends up on my operating table.........

Cheers,

Hugh

I have solved the problem:

R24 was  :( not ironed :(  on one side.

I am really sorry for this and for the time I got Hugh to spend for me.

Now listening... a really pleasure.

Hi Renzo,

Congratulations to you for solving the R24 problem on your AKSA 100N!  This resistor has important stability qualities;  leaving it off will cause problems, as you found.

You have also built a 55N, and listened to it for more than 18 months.  Now you've had the 100W Nirvana running a few days, would you like to report your feelings about the differences in sound?

Cheers,

Hugh
