Student project update
« on: 4 Mar 2009, 01:53 am »
The good news is we now have nearly 50 students signed up from 3 schools to build a set of speakers as a physics project :D.  And thanks to lots of you guys, we have most of them covered as far as woofers and tweeters- but we don't have all of them.  I still need 5-7" woofers (about 6 more) and more tweeters, preferable at least a few that will reach down to cross with some 8" woofers.  Some of you guys had asked about cash donations-- now is the time if you want to help out.  We may end up buying some of the Madisound "recession buster kits" for $59 +shipping.

We are tax exempt.

Art,
You have a pm.  I just talked to Danny, and he has made us a nice offer on his drivers that may solve most of what we need.
I still haven't been by to hear your 9's, but it is on my list of things to do soon.

As Of Today, we have around 50 high school kids designing 22 set of speakers,  :D  Some are doing MtM's, some are jumping into 10" 3 ways :o, there is a transmission line, an open baffle mid/tweeter with sealed sub, and a host of 2 ways.  Boxes are due in 2 1/2 weeks.  Thanks to JohnR and all the gang here at AC.  We have reached a lot of kids through this program! Special thanks to Art and Hugh for the last minute $$ to fund the last bit of stuff for the year.  The list of folks helping out just keeps growing. :thumb:  Oh, and Madisound came through with special pricing for odds and ends! Wow!

That's cool Scott, sounds like a blast. Thanks for teaching the young 'uns.
Do us a favor, and post pictures with FR graphs. We like that.  aa
Although having 22 pair might be a daunting task for you to post it all here.
But we know you'll do your best.

Yep. It's the old saying, "Be careful what you ask for..."  I wanted to expand this project to multiple high schools, so I am going to have a ton of work to do with this.  But, we are going to have a lot of kids that realize that a) science can be fun b) "wow, I didn't know speakers could sound like this"
I alway try to post the FR curves when the contest is over in May.  Most of last years are in my gallery.  If you haven't checked out the open baffle line array that a kid built last year, you have got to look in the gallery for it.  It goes way beyond mid fi quality!!  -all with some Madisound buyout drivers and one of Danny R.'s tweeters.

Oh yea, I've been watching since the beginning Scott. I saw the OB last year. Very nice indeed from what I recall.
You're doing a Heckuva job Mr. C.
