Weight of RM-40's

In case anyone is interested, weight in factory box with original packing materials is 183 lbs each (as measured by freight company scale).   Box and packing probably weigh at least 20 lbs per side.  

Always thought they were surprisingly easy to move (and tip) at 240 lbs.    :lol:

I always wondered how the 40's were so darn heavy...

Not that 180+ lbs is light.

BTW, how are things going with the cable search?

Ah, but I bet you forgot to throw in the Casler "super deluxe tweak" and the accompanying 20 lb weight!

Sorry folks, but that scale is out of whack.  The RM 40's ship at 498 lbs/pr.
Weighed them many times.

My New Larger Sub with Soundcoat and MW was marked "120lbs" in the box as per UPS- it is listed as 140lbs.  My old Martin Logan Prodigies at only 130lbs, were significantly harder to move than my RM40s, although most of the weight was concentrated in the bass module.

LSW without base and passive xover is about 130 lbs.  We mark the boxes with a cautionary weight for the handlers.  UPS routinely charged us for oversize (extra $50) beforehand.

I can p/u my dad who is about 180lbs.  I can't lift my RM40s. I would say 240lbs is much more believable then 180lbs.

I have the airfreight bills to prove it.  The empty RM 40 cabinet weighs almost 200 lbs.  To make it requires 2/3 sheet of 1.5" MDF, 3/4 sheet of 1" MDF, 1/3 sheet 3/4" MDF, and 1/3 sheet 1/2" MDF.  A single 3/4" sheet of MDF is about 100 lbs.

forgot to mention, filled the cabinets with helium before I shipped  :lol:

i won't complain if the freight scales are off in the (-) direction...

I have to back Brian here. Estes Express told me my RM40s were 490+ pounds when I called them to find out when they'd be delivered.  They certainly felt every bit of 240 pounds apiece getting them off the truck. They are remarkably easy to move around though as long as one takes it slowly. Mine have a tendency to wobble, but that'll soon be fixed thanks to Big B. (Thanks Brian, I'm looking forward to the better pedestals)
