Question about compatability of power adapter
« on: 3 Mar 2009, 02:18 am »
I have a 17" Toshiba laptop, and my power adapter is shot.

I also have an HP laptop, and the power adapter fits the Toshiba.

The only difference in the specs of the 2 adapters is the Toshiba outputs 3.95A and the HP adapter outputs 4.7A...

All other things being equal (output voltage=19V), will using the HP adapter on my Toshiba harm it due to the higher current?

Thanks

Brian

i just went through the same dilemma and form my research as long as you meet or exceed the amp rating you should be fine.  i read a few places that voltage could be up to about 0.5v higher but i still would feel better by using the exact same voltage as specs.  you should be fine with your adaptor.  you could always hit ebay and find one for $10 if you feel nervous.
