Is that an Ariston turntable?  Love the look of the wood setoff by the black of Frank's equipment and the Magnepans. Very nice.

I like it! If my wife ever questions my rig, I'm gonna show her this thread. What an inspiration!

Nice Empire. I always wanted a nice pair of Advents, but just never got around to it. I also have been looking for a pair of AR-5's but I know the woofers always need surrounds replaced. The tweeter level control also goes to hell. Do the Advents have a paper tweeter?

The Advent tweeters were made out of Styrofoam of some sort, Henry Kloss painted it orange to seal the leak and it worked well. There was this guy at the Audioasylum actually talked to (via email) the person in charge of production at Advent, it was good read, but I can't find the thread now.

Yes, it's an Ariston RD-11 Superieur, with DC motor, one piece heavy platter, one piece heavy gauge stainless steel plinth, electronic speed control, with Linn springs installed.

If you notice in the last picture, that pile of black plates on the shelf, they are the spare arm boards for the Ariston, cut for various arms, they are factory drilled for Rega, Grace, SME and so on. It's my pride and joy, with all accessories. By the way, I have a Grace G-707 ready to go on it.

Must be a lot of fun to try different arms. How long does it take to change out an arm?

Your setup looks cool, but I think you could use more speakers.

Extra caution needs to be taken when changing out the tonearm to prevent damage. Since the tonearms are already mounted on the spare armboards, take the existing arm out, put it away, mount the new arm, then recheck the tracking force, the total time would be approx. 50 minutes. I only change it out maybe once every two months, so not a big deal.

Thanks, when I have more time, I'll post some more pictures of my other speakers and equipment collection.

Years and years ago, I visited the home of Wade Burns, then the chief designer at Dynaco.

His home setup consisted of the latest and greatest Dyna stuff (Pat-5 Bifet and Dyna 416 amp with the external power supply box) driving eight Dyna A25 speakers arranged in a series parallel array, stacked two high, four per channel.

He had a large tropical fish aquarium across the room from the setup.  He proudly showed me how loud it would play.  Loud enough to panic the fish and send them into a frenzy nearly raising whitecaps in the aquarium.  It was more than loud enough for me too.  :)

Best regards,

Frank Van Alstine

Stacking speakers with the same impedance characteristic maybe a cost effective way to enjoy this hobby.

I didn't mention that the first picture shows the large Advent and the Advent/1 (smaller Advent) are stacked in parallel.

The KLH 23 with the Advent/1 on top are not stacked due to what I think is the different impedance of the components, I have not tried, however.

Ideally, back in the day, people liked to stack two pairs of large Advent, the Absolute Sound had an article on this. Since I have no luck or space for another pair of Large Advent, I settle with the current configuration, and it works amazingly well.

Evidence showed folks also like to stack Bozak 302 to get the Bozak Concert Grand effect, but that would be too labor intensive for me.

Are you a Dead-Head? That Advent array reminds me of their "Wall of Sound".

Not a real Dead_Head, but I saw them at the "Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker" tour in 1986, some may call it "Dylan and the Dead" tour.
