from yer rewiew:

"...I was told this tuner was the one presented at a CES show by Accuphase. The questions going through my head are "did Accuphase fine-tune it? A little extra care matching parts? Filters?" Probably not, but it is something to ponder...."

probably not?  i'd be wery surprised if they dint!   :o

in any ewent, it musta been tough to see the lo-2t go down to a digital tuna, eh jim?

in any ewent:  the king is dead - long live the king!   :)

I don't feel too bad having the #2 and #3 tuna's.

Got to love those Sansui's..listening to AC/DC on my TU-X1 right now ...

It appears that there's now a stock tuner that may be as good as my modded Kenwood Kt 7500 from 1979.

Keep your KT-7500

Hello Warner, Better keep your KT-7500. I didn't say the Accuphase was THAT good. After all it is stock. 8:-)

Jim,

I didn't see the Sansui TU-9900 on your list..where do you think that would go?

Believe it or not. I've never listened to one. Probably next year. We've not run out of tuners in the warehouse yet.  The review of STOCK tuners in the Shootout may slow down as I'm (1) a little burned out (2) Want to start up a seperate Shootout for STOCK tube tuners (3) Want to start up a Shootout of seriously DIY modified transistor tuners.  :)

No problem Jim,  I can tell you that it would make your top 12 as it is better than the Sansui TU-717

Jim: The Kenwood is the one piece that will remain in my system.   Besides with all the new parts you put in it I believe it should be good for another quarter century.  Thanks again for the super job.
Have been wondering what would be a good tube tuner to try out so I'm looking forward to your tube tuner shootouts.
Anybody know the price of the Accuphase?

I have an Audiolab (#4) - the bass is strong, but really flabby.  I do not see the Fanfare tuner on this list.  The Fanfare isn't perfect, but pretty damned good compared to anything else I have heard, including the Audiolab.

The Fanfare FT 1 is number 58.  What's interesting is the B&K is at 13 and the two look nearly identical.

Can anyone tell me if any of the solid-state tuners tested had the same or similar FM demodulator chip.  This chip is where the analogue audio starts
and is the reason I gave up on solid-state tuners in the 80's and restored my Fisher FM100B with the help of the Fisher Doctor.

Well, actually. The Fanfare I reviewed was mostly all surface mount technology. The B&K was not. I did not compare the chips when both were in house.
