Spring Fever gathering, Saturday March 28th
« on: 27 Feb 2009, 02:12 pm »
We'll be hosting a gathering on Saturday March 28, from noon to 9 pm.

I'll be making some jambalaya and red beans with rice, and will have some tasty stuff in the buy/sell/trade room. We hope the weather will cooperate, so we can throw the VOTTs on the back porch again. As usual, plenty of high efficiency vintage gear, tubes, time aligned stuff upstairs, and some good friends...local, AK buds, Klipsch forum guys, Tapeheads and GDIs.

Hoping Willie, Sturgis, Chris and other members of the Gateway mafiosa can make it down here.  :thumb:

Hi Dave

So where are you exactly?  I missed the last one and it sounds like a good time.

Bryan, we are three blocks north of 255 off Telegraph, in south county...about three minutes from South County Mall.

Sweet.  I'll check with the social director and see if we have anything on the calendar.

I am interested in fitting this into my schedule too, please send directions to me also when you start sending them out.  Thank you.

Are there many vinyl folks in this circle?  For selling and trading them?

There are a few folks into vinyl that will be there I'm sure.

Whatcha got and whatcha lookin' for?

Looks like there will be folks from several audio forums and hopefull even some out of town/state folks showing up.

If I don't meet up with Sturgis before this I'll have the Chameleon pre amp to pass along to the next member.

Question: A renter left a lot of STUFF when they moved out, including some 78 RPM records.  Does anybody in the group have any interest or knowledge of 78 RPM records?
If so, I could bring them on the 28th.

Ken,

I think there will be at least one guy knowledgable in 78's and he may be interested in them also.

Ken, G, and others,
we will send out directions via PM two days before that Saturday. We are less than three minutes from 255 and Telegraph, with three turns to make total, so it is not hard to make it here.

Various attendees will be bringing another two tube preamps and four tube amps, and we have added an Ampex tube console as well.

We look set for entrees for lunch/dinner, but drinks and/or side dishes/deserts would be appreciated. Eating seems to be even more popular than listening at these gatherings.  aa

Sounds good.  Looking forward to it.  If you have anything special you want/need in terms of side dishes, say so.

I can bring a few toys along to play with but it sounds like for the most part, you're pretty well set on equipment.

Hi Dave,
I'm going to try and make it, I'm not sure if I'll be playing Mr. Mom that day yet or not.
I look forward to meeting you.

Joe, I will be playing Mr Dad to our six year old. We have a huuuge back yard that is kid friendly to younguns, with horses and chickens next door. It is easy to keep the little ones entertained for a couple hours, and there will be plenty of parents on the back porch to assist if you need to have a go at serious listening.  :D

My name is Bob LaKamp....I know Scott F.   I live in Jacksonville Illinois and would like to come and see what you guys do.   I am not an official member ...how do I join?    I would like to bring a friend who is interested in building some speakers (and also for company on the 2 hour + drive to south county.    How do I get specifics on getting to your house (with your permission) With Scott's help I have significantly upgraded my listening pleasures this past year.    Thanks,  Bob

Bob, of course you can come on over. Here is a generic map of the Wal-Mart two minutes from our house in south county. Again, I will email or pm exact directions two days before the 28th. I don't want any EARLY arrivals...

Allright, so far we are looking at the following people who have RSVP'd...

Bryan P
Scott F
Bo
Gavin
Rex
Ken S
Willie
Joe K
Bob C w friend
Bob A
Carl G
Scottie
Joe
Steve and nephew

Hoping we have good weather, so we can handle any number of people. The VOTTs and probably the Fraziers will be holding court in the backyard/patio.

Oh yea, Willie. This time I think we can play the "ownership" game, where you pick a system you want to run for an hour. Steve said he wants to go Altec'ing when he arrives.  :thumb: Kick out the jams at 10 wpc. :o

We also have the 1957 EV Georgian we will build up during the festivities. Get the younguns on that gig, so we can watch, laugh, and be rested for later.

BTW, where is your night gig at? If we wrap up as expected, maybe a group could head over to the Red Sea, or wherever you are holding court.
