Bonus Disc.... LP + CD = :thumb:
« on: 27 Feb 2009, 07:36 am »
So I ordered the new Dan Auerbach LP Keep it Hid knowing that the CD of the album was included. Cool.

In the same order I also purchased M83's Saturdays=Youth LP.

I played Dan's album a few times a couple of days ago.  Tonight I opened Saturday=Youth LP and there is a bonus CD included as well. A pleasant surprise.

2 new albums and 2 CDs for $36. Very Cool.  I am really enjoying both albums.

I hope this starts a trend!

The last Album I bought that included CD was B-52’s Funplex. It included the album on CD plus mp3 version too.

The only thing for me is I don’t have a CD player, I tend to give free CD’s away to friends.

Emmylou Harris's most recent release (which is wonderful btw) is a 2-lp + 1-cd set.  The vinyl sounds better, but it's great to have the cd to copy to the ipod.

I love this approach too.  Of course the LP is almost always better, but CDs or mp3s do come in handy for the car or casual listening.

Hopefully more labels will start doing this so I can never buy a stand alone CD again!   :green:

CD + LP bundles would be great. I usually want both.

I am "new" to analog, while I agree with Hicks' "...almost always better" comment, when speaking about sonics, I'll also support that there is drawback to vinyl. That would be convenience. LP playback is only optimal for dedicated listening sessions. I am a multi tasker (or ADD, depending on how you view it)....so having to monitor the end of an album is not better than disc or server playback. Especially, when there are 4 vinyl platters to equal a single CD: The M83 album I mentioned above has from only 10-16 minutes of music per side (2 LPs) - this really gets you involved with the playback! I only hit into the runout 2 out of the 4 sides last night -it was near midnight. Though, it was the quietest runout I've experienced.

cheers, ed

Agreed, CDs are more convenient no question.

However I would argue that being more involved in the listening process is a huge plus with vinyl and you really do get more out of the experience by taking a more active role.

A lot of labels are going this route.

Makes a lot of sense.
