How far apart do you have your speakers?
« on: 26 Feb 2009, 05:42 pm »
Just curious and thought it might be interesting to see what everybody else is doing with their speaker placement, amount of toe in and maybe how far from back wall and side walls?
I'll take some measurements this afternoon for my own setup.

approx. 6ft but I would like them wider apart and toed in with approx. 1ft off the back wall.

Mine are only 44" apart dictated by cabinet housing electronics and waf. They are 24" from the wall with slight toe in.
I have often wondered if placing them futher apart would improve sound stage.

Mine are about 11 feet apart and about 12 feet from listening position.  There is about 3 feet between the speaker and the wall.  Utilizing a level with laser pointer, I have the speakers toed in so that the drivers are pointed about 4 inches on either side from the center of my seating location (not crossed).  The soundstage is nice.

I listen more nearfield.  Speakers are approx 10.5' apart and I sit approx 9' from them.  Front baffles are approx 3' from the front wall and are toed in to intersect about 4' behind my head.

My speakers are slightly toed-in, 7'-5" apart center-to-center, 24" from the side walls with the front baffle 47" from the front wall. I sit about 10' back.

The speaker location coincides with the 1st and 3rd harmonic null points (is that the right terminology?) of 49 Hz and 147 Hz based on an axial standing wave calculator.

Center to center, they're about 9' apart in a 12' wide room, toe is aimmed to cross just in front of my nose. It varies from 3' to 5' from the front wall* and (about) 10' - 12' from my ears. Tilt is an exaggerated 15 degrees (estimate) due to stubby overall height to not interfere with the projection screen.

* Open baffle needs some room between the speaker and front wall to "breathe" is the reason for the longer than normal distance.

I have mine 14' apart,  almost tucked into the corners  with the 15" woofs drivers toed in front of listening position about a foot ,while listening position is 11' away. The JBL mid horn and tweet that sits on top of the dual 15"s is in its own seperate cabinet so I toe them in a little bit more just to keep the highs from shouting a bit as pointed directly to each ear can be a bit to much plus its probably saving what hearing I have left.

About 10 feet apart, nearly tucked in the corners too. :D

Toe in - the left speaker aims at my left shoulder, the right speaker aims at my right shoulder.

2 Auralex space arrays on each side wall, right in front of each speaker. (First reflection point of each speaker.)

The width apart is the same distance as the distance from the speakers to my listening position forming an equilateral triangle.

Six feet; would like them further apart but just don't have the room. Sit from nine to twelve feet back depending on the music.

9' apart and I sit back 10' with them about a foot away from the back wall. You could start with a triangle and move them in small increments at a time to find out what works best for you. Moving them just a bit at a time will make a difference, at least it does for me.
I wish the room was large enough to get them further out from the wall though.

6' equilateral triangle relative to my listening position. I wish my room ws bigger to rpf. BTW, I consider under 6' to be "nearfield."
