I visited an audio store on Saturday while waiting as my wife did some shipping. I noticed they carried the Def Tech Mythos STS, which recently received a very positive review in Stereophile. They are 47" tall and only 5.5" wide, and have 300w class D amps powering the bass. Very solidly built. All for $3 grand, but not very attractive.
In the past I might have been too embarrased or closed minded to admit it, but I was very, very impressed. Very powerful, huge tall soundstage, with images that floated eerily about a foot above the speakers. They played much louder than their size effortlessly. At the same time they had impressive clarity and finesse.
I'm a long time ProAc Response 2.5 owner, and a big advocate of simple 2 way designs with simple crossovers. I find well designed 2 ways to be more coherent and transparent, but I have to admit, I'm considering taking a serious look at the Mythos.
Does anyone have any first hand experience with them?
PS: Hello everyone - haven't been around much lately, but still loving the music.
