gain, volume control, and my Dodd pre
« on: 16 Feb 2009, 07:48 pm »
I have a brand new Dodd battery pre (hooray for me!!), and I've got it paired with a Bryston 4BSST and Salk HT3s. The Bryston has switchable gain - I've got it set on the lowest - which is 23dB. from my research 23 dB of amp gain is pretty low, yet with 16 dB of preamp gain I can only use the volume between say the positions of 7:30 and 9 oclock. Gary D says don't worry, the pot is linear, wherever it works is fine.
But if I change amps, most have more gain - will I have problems? Are there other factors that might come into play other than gain?
Anyone else out there  experienced with this pre?
