The new chips are a new design. The nice thing is that they require no change to the rest of the circuitry like modding the power supply. It is simply plug and play. (Not for everyone as a DIY).

Certainly a larger soundstage. This really takes the Insight line and the SS design to a new level.

I wonder what effect these chips will have in the T8 and Ultra DACs.

I'm Doubly curious. :D  If one piece is needing an upgrade, why not two?  :thumb:

Have fun,
Jerry

No I do't know how the chips do that, OINP, but I know you will like the sound. It's like looking thru a window that Frank keeps making clearer and clearer. I'm curious how they will sound with the DAC and a good CD will sound.

I have some idea what devices Frank use on some of the upgrades, just not sure if he uses the same chip on all his whole product line as far as the upgrade.

Yes they would.  In your case we would not have to install new boards, just upgrade your existing mother board, and the upgrade would be done to both the line and the phono circuits.  The cost is $300 for this (corrected to $399.00).  It is a major upgrade.

Regards,

Frank Van Alstine

Frank,  would that change the type of tubes used in the Super PAS 4i from 12AX7's,  to 12AT7's or some other tube? Or could the 12AX7's be retained with the upgrade?

  Yes,  true.   I have several nice pairs of 1950's and 1960's RCA's,  Mullards,  Raytheon Black Plates,   Amperex Bugle Boys,   Sylvania Baldwins,  GE's and a lot of new production 12AX7.

I've had great fun tube rolling and trying to find good match ups with my gear and all the different speakers I have.

I'm very fond of the 1959/1960/1961 Raytheon Black Plates.  Sweet tubes!!  I also love the 1950's RCA,  too!

Those Bluegle Boys tubes are better because they're blue.

Shouldn't you do blue too?

Song sung blue
Everybody knows one
Song sung blue
Every garden grows one

Me and you are subject to the blues now and then
But when you take the blues and make a song
You sing them out again
Sing them out again

Song sung blue
Weeping like a willow
Song sung blue
Sleeping on my pillow

Duuuude,  I do blue

I do be leave the line would be up graded to use a 12AT7s but the phono would still use a 12AX7 with an up grade too I would think. Ya I know all about rolling tubes! I went tube happy for a few years there. I would say I have a few old ones, like 1961 Raytheon and if you really want that mid range 1955 Mullards from the Mitcham works not Blackburn works, Brimar 3-Mica BP  and a pair of early 60s Bugle Boys, a nice pair of La Radiotechnique from France late 60s that sound a lot like a Telefunken. Also some cold war East German tubes like Funkwerk and Funwerk that is run by RFT. I tend to like the West German tubes like Siemens, I have a few pair from 61 to 67 ( ECC81 and E81CC ) and a  few pair of Valvo Hamburg, I have one pair from 1954 that kick ass on the 55 Mullards and then we get to the pinacle of tubes IMI Telefunken although I have never heard RCA Black plates but have heard they sound good in the 12AX7. All my tubes are 12AT7s but I have just a few 12AX7s for the Super Pas 3 I am going to build one of these days like RWN Newhaus, I heard them at Martyo's in his old Super Pas 3i nice tube but I think the Telefunken were better but that's just me. I run Telefunken in all of Frank's stuff and am more then happy.

Frank, I ran across this on Ebay. How about hanging one of these on the back of a Super Pas 3? Would that give you a little more to play with?

I can just picture the whole preamp doing a "wheelie" because all of the weight is hanging on the back panel. :)

(I don't know that it would actually happen, but it's an amusing thought.)
