Baked Beans

Here is an easy way to make some really good baked beans, quickly.
I don't really like canned baked beans but I love the BBQ baked beans you usually get with a good rack of ribs.  So I improvised and it worked out very well.
Grab a can of baked beans.
Rinse them of the usless syrup and set aside.
Crisp up some thick smoked bacon.
Grease a baking bowl with the grease from the bacon.
Combine beans, bacon, and your favorite BBQ sauce.
Bake until desired crispiness stirring one or two times.

Add chopped onion, pepper, Tabasco, etc to taste.

Lou’s BBQ Pit Baked Beans

This BBQ bean recipe is my attempt to de-construct the best BBQ beans I have ever had.  I ate them at Joe’s Real BBQ in Gilbert, AZ.  I never liked baked beans until Joe’s because they were always too syrupy and sweet.  This recipe yields a runny gravy style of BBQ beans.

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 1 ¼ hour

Ingredients:

1/2 lb. Pull Pork, chopped and cooked
1/2 lb. Thick Bacon, chopped

1 16-ounce can pork and beans, drained and rinsed
1 15-1/4-ounce can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 14 1/4-ounce can lima beans, drained and rinsed
1 16-ounce can of butter beans, drained and rinsed

1 medium sweet onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 cup beef broth
1/4 cup cider vinegar
4 tbsp. molasses
2 tsp. Ancho powder
1 tbsp. brown mustard
2 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Sauté bacon for a few minutes and then add the onion and garlic.  Add butter, ketchup, barbecue sauce, beef broth, cider vinegar, molasses, Ancho powder, brown mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, pulled pork, and salt and pepper to taste.  Stir until well blended.  Pour into a large casserole dish and add other ingredients and stir to combine. Place in hot oven and bake for 1 ¼ hour.

Feel free to adjust the recipe to your taste or to experiment.

Enjoy,
Lou

Wow, sounds very good. How much does that make?
Looks like it'll feed a small army. Large crock pot worth?

I cook this in a Dutch oven and have made it for family functions.  I have always planned to attempt to freeze some to see how it would do, but dang, I never seem to have any left-overs.      :green:   :green:
