I see that I'm going to have to start hiding things at the house!

Yougest kid got his hands on a pair of Nightingales, and we auditioned them at my house (tried to wake up the dead at one time). So he takes them home with a smile on his face. Everythings just fine (NOT!). He comes over yesterday afternoon, and headed strait to the big box I keep extra cables in (some are pretty pricey). Says "hey I need this and I need that." Finally ends up with a nice pair of Cardas biwire speaker cables after we almost come to blows over two pairs of Synergistics! Then he heads up stairs to examine my equipment rack that's not being used. Ask me where the amp went that I gave Bunkie, and I tell him it's long gone. Then he wants to borrow my 8 watt mono blocs from my upstairs system! NOPE! They're not big enough son! Well we then go back to the spare room and he has his eyes on my spare Quicksilver linestage (mint condition), and I said "see that ASL preamp?" But the other is better looking.
Anybody want to adopt a kid?

Sounds like he needs one with all the goodies he's got and with a kid "in the need and in the know".

He just called me, and said he was comming by! Here we go again. But I have a plan; I'm gonna give him my Music Hall turntable (#5 that needs a tonearm rewire). He's had his eye on my Jolida CD player, and that'll be a cold day in hell! Also need to remind him that he needs to call Klaus, and get him to build him a pair of speaker cables or I'll never see that pair of Cardas biwires again ($600 pair at that).

It's great to hear a younger audiophile...BUT....you'll have to let him earn his piece or else he'll get spoiled!
Make him work it off or something, or say these items are listed and some are sale pending!

Can't just give him things... OR, could be the wife's big scheme to get you to rid some stuff....a deterrent t buying and having extra stuff?

Yeah give him your unsuccessful DIY Jobs old cables etc
My kid will earn his keep by starting from the bottom like ol dad did  :thumb:

He's 23 years old, and is in upper level management where he works. So money's not that much of a deal unless you ask him! But I think it's important to get him headed in the right direction from the start, and hopefully he won't fall into the traps that many of us here have. Now if I can get a turntable setup and in his house! As for that evil word "wife." I got rid of mine 17 years ago, and have never looked back.

Hi Lazydays,
You seem to like the Jolida cd player a lot. Which model do you have ? Any comparisons with other players ?

Thanks :)

I have a CD100A. Have had it for about six years now, and has been retubed with 5751's. Kills my Marantz 8260, Sony 9000ES, Cal Delta/MSB Half Nelson and a couple other Sonys that I've owned. The Cal Delta / MSB combo is the closest to it. It has it's pluses and minuses (forget about using the digital out into an external DAC). Sounds the closest to analog that I've ever owned, and has absolutly no glare or harshness like Sonys do. Still I think the unit I buy will be a universal player that does everything.

Thanks Gary :D
Do you think this would be a good upgrade over a Arcam cd73t which I own now ? Any comparisons to Arcams ?

I've never heard an Arcam. The Jolida sounds a little different than the normal CD player. It's much smoother and has much less glare in it. I'm surprised that Jolida hasn't came out with an upgraded tubed CD player.
