Yesterday I was listening to the Bill Evans Complete Vanguard Recordings disk 2 and I heard some voices which I thought were coming from outside the house but they were part of the recording and they sure sounded real

I've been listening to the Evans/Vanguard Recordings quite a bit lately too. I'm amazed at the place in history these sessions have, how we're groovin' on them almost 50 years later, and you can hear these people talking and laughing and clanking glasses while they are playing.  :o

Almost 1 day  after receiving my Pas 4i and I'm still in awe of it.The one thing I have found scary about this preamp is one could sit and listen to it for hours on end.I didn't get to bed until 2am this morning(not healthy at all)For lack of a better way of saying it the "sound"of this preamp is so non fatiguing, smooth, relaxed, airy yet musical and revealing.I'm running Mullard NOS tubes in mine and am loving it.I can safely say this is yet another part of my system that's staying.Does Van Alstine make interconnects? Thanks for a great product.Regards Cleaton from Barbados :thumb:

Cleaton,

Did your Pas 4i come into your possession with the Mullards or are you already engaging in the subtle pleasures of tube rolling?

Barbados! aa. Must be in the upper 70's there now.  You lucky soul. :green:

martyo,

Thanks for the welcome.

I do favor albums that were recorded in venues with audiences and the Evans Vanguard recordings are considered classic in this regard.

Ah you might not want to get Frank going on interconnects.

Hey Roy mine has been fitted with Nos Mullards by me.I'm a big Mullard fan.I still am amazed at the lack of noise in my system with this preamp. This is an incredible work of art.To Mr. Alstine you're the man :thumb: Sorry if I'm beginning to sound like a record that's stuck  Happy Regards Cleaton

Ah.....I think I see some Mullards in my future. Tube Depot offers some NOS @~30 bucks apiece. The Siemans 12AT7 is supposed to be good too. I have some Telefunken 12AX7s that I can roll in the phono section. My unit came with EH 12AT7s and EH 12AX7s. We'll soon hear which ones I like the best. :)
