I wrote to Mr. Alstine asking about magnetic/RF/EMI sheilding in his amps.  He responsed quickly, and stated that his toroids are sheilded [unlike other more expensive brands]  and Mu metal is the best sheild material.

If I could sell my Musical Fidelity gear [here in the UK]  I'd buy his big solid state amp, and whichever preamp is supposed to be the best.

Why?

Because unlike conglomerates and certain companies with unapproachable staff, Mr Van Alstine was directly helpful.  That inspires consumer confidence that I won't be left out to dry.  I'd really like to hear his products.  I could really use the 225 wpc with 1 ohm drive...

I would look at his Fet-Valve amps. These hybrids have as much power as the pure solid state designs, plus you get the sweet sound of tubes. Cheaper this way. I started out with his solid state amps and have since moved to tubes. I'm not looking back.
