Upgraded Power Supply for the ICON

What difference, if any, will this make if the unit is only used for a DAC/Headphone amp?

Yes, none if only headphone amp or DAC is used.
We only recommended the bigger power supply upgrade if Icon has to drive speaker and line out at the same time.
Some speakers will also benefit from the bigger power supply.

Would you also recommend it if you're using the Nuforce sub with the Nuforce speakers?

Yes, if the Icon has to drive speaker and line out at the same time, we strongly recommend getting the bigger power supply.
