Brand New 14bsst2 D.O.A - Please Help!
« on: 11 Feb 2009, 09:47 pm »
Today I just unpacked my 14BSSt2 amp and BCD-1 and the amplifier is not powering up.

I have double checked to make sure that I have power in, the unit is set for local power up via the front panel switch and the power switch is in the on position in the rear.  The l.e.d. in the back and the l.e.d's in the front do not light up.

I have been eagerly awaiting this amp for over a month now and of course this is quite upsetting.  If anyone has a experience relating to this issue, or something I may be overlooking please give me some feedback.

Thank You-

rydenfan

Wow, that sucks!! Sorry to hear that. I really hope it is something simple that can be easily solved. I am sure you would be distraught if you had to part with the amp after waiting for it for so long.

I assume you called tech support as well?

Hopefully, it will be as simple as some blown fuses.  Though I'm not familiar with Bryston amps, no power whatsoever often stems from that in 95% of amps my friends bring to me to fix.  Externally, they should be at the back of the amp and/or in the IEC plug-in.  Internally, you'll just have to look around, but they should be apparent.  Even if you've never turned it on or if its never been powered up while in your possession, I'd check them out.  Good luck.  Cordially,

Hi Audio1

Make sure the circuit breaker switch on the back of the 14B is ON before you plug in the power cord. If its already plugged in disconnect the power cord and then turn the circuit breaker on and then plug in the power cord to the amp.

The small green light on the back should come on (indicating proper voltage is available) - then power the amp up with the front panel power switch.

James,

With the circuit breaker in the ON position I disconnected and re-connected the power source and still nothing.

James,

Is there a phone number I can reach you at?

Also make sure on the back of the amp that the 'Local/Remote' switch is in the 'Local' position otherwise the amp wants to see the 12 volt trigger voltage to turn on.

The issue unfortunately seems to be an internal problem.  James is working with me to get it taken care of in short order.

Glad to hear James is helping you out. Sorry you have to go through that as I am sure you were pretty excited to hear your new amp. Hopefully it will get resolved quickly, which seems likely given James' track record.

Yes-we picked the 14B amp up from Audio 1 on Thursday (he was kind enough to take it to work with him) and rushed it to our service depot in Vermont. They will have a look at it on Monday and hopefully get it back to Audio 1 on Tuesday.

My sincere apologies for this and I will be very interested to see what the problem was as 'dead' out of the box is something that should never happen.

My apology Audio 1.

Problem found - a blown fuse on the input.
Not sure how this happened. The amplifier is on the way back.
