New RAAL ribbons arrived...

70-20XR with amorphous core transformers!  :thumb:

These are going into most extreme high end floorstander that we have ever built. Dual 10" AuraSound woofers with massive motors, Accuton ceramic mids, and VH Teflon caps for the ribbons.

Just wondering, what's so great about the Amorphous Core? Also, how similar are these to the 70-10D.

Sounds amazing.

Which Accutons?

MTM or MT up top?

MTM on top with the 5" Accuton.

You can read about the transformers at http://www.raalribbon.com/ for more information.

The ribbon width is greater in the 70-20 (20mm) versus 10mm in the 70-10D for a lower crossover point. There are also some other differences but I've not investigated those yet to make an honest comparison. The 70-10D is so good that if this is any better it's only icing on the cake.

Boy,  I just heard the Raal 140-15D's in an MTM configuration with PHL 6 inch midbass drivers (the MTM section alone weighs 90kg!!!!!) And this was paired with stereo Whise Subwoofers and all put together with DEQX and using valve amps on the mids and tweeter. Now I'm back home and my DEQX'd triamped Dynaudio s5.4's sound like crap.

Looking forward to seeing how your new project Rick comes along. Hopefully by the time they're done, the Aussie dollar will be back level with the US, but somehow I think I'm dreaming.

I really want to hear those Rick. Can I hear them before they fly away to their new home?

My next speaker will use RAAL ribbons, so any other ribbon projects you have coming up, I'm interested to audition. Thanks
Rich

Four different RAAL designs going on now so there's a good chance you'll get to hear at least one of them.  :thumb:
