Next upgrade
« on: 8 Feb 2009, 03:07 pm »
Hello dear friends,

My system consists of a pair of PMC IB2, Bryston's 4BSST and 25BP DA as well as a squeezebox. I am very satisfied with this system, but I think that it can be improved further.

I feel that the weakest part in my set up is the squeezebox, so I am looking for a second hand cd transport. I saw an ad for a meridian 506 (20 bits) in good condition and for an interesting price. Would you think that the meridian may bring some improvements? if no, what should be the next upgrade?

Thank you very much for your advices.

Save up for a Bryston BCD-1 since you already have a Bryston/PMC system. It is highly recommended and you won't believe the detail you have been missing using that squeeze box.

I agree with those that recommended the BCD-1.  I have had mine for about 45 days and have been very happy with it.

I agree with you, but since I already have bryston's DAC in my pre-amp I was thinking that good cd transport would be equivalent to the BCD 1. Doesn't?

I have a bcd-1 and a bp26-da. The digital out from bcd going into digital input of bp26 produces quite inferior sound when compared to bcd-1 balanced output. I don't have a bda-1 but reviews suggest it is better than da in bp26.

A Bryston BCD-1 all the way!... After getting a BCD-1, try to pry yourself your listening spot and tell us how right all of us were in recommending to you this piece of art.  IB2's? You don't need to mess around with Meridian.

Considering the resolution and range your system is capable of I offer another vote for BCD1 or BDA1 as next upgrade, no question.

I have a somewhat similar setup and thought the internal SP1.7 DAC sounded pretty good.  When I got the BDA1 though I was really astonished by the improvements in texture, detail, soundstage and bass extension.

You'll really like the IB2 bass with the BCD1 or BDA1 :P.

Go with the BDA-1, its very good dac and sounds great witha laptop. I wouldnt go back to any cdp now.
The BDA-1 has so many inputs, it is so versatile, u wont be dissappointed.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. I will definitively order a bcd1. I will keep you informed.
