Oh, I forgot to mention, Norman Granz stayed in charge of the recordings and production at Pablo until he closed shop in 1987.
Funny, back around 2002 or 2003 I was in touch with a high school girl that lived in the same building Norman and his wife Greta lived in. She had contacted me because she was doing a book report on him at her school in Switzerland. I came really close to securing all of Norman's old company records (contracts with artists, personal memorabilia and the like) for the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City. Unfortunately, the girl vaporized (we were communicating via email) just as we were getting close to getting a list of artifacts.
I sure would have loved to see his collection make it into the museum. It sure would have made a great permanent exhibit. Norman single handedly did more for jazz than anyone else, ever.
