Wayner,

I've looked at those ADC's too...the 1600 and 1700 are so cheap...worth a shot.

The ADC tonearms were low mass beauties mostly...so if the drive is well sorted, it might well play well.

The tonearm looks oversized (bigger than 9") from the pic...all the better for tracking  :thumb:

Enjoy (and thanks for keeping our economy rolling )

Hello Wayner...

Long time, no type...

I too had a DUAL 1215 at one time.  Bought used, it developed the headshell problem that this design was famous for.   I would up selling it as a parts bin table.

I then had a Garrard Zero 100c for many years.  Not a bad sounding table at all.  It also developed a most irritating headshell connection problem.  I should have been patient with her...but alas, I was not, and she also went as a parts bin item.

Since then...Hmmm...Several Technics DD tables, the Harmon Kardon (Van Alstine modded).  Still have the T-25 I bought from you.  It's having it's V-A mods done now, she is in open heart surgery as I type.  Still have the another modded T-25 and a modded T-55 too (Say YEAH, WGH).

If there is a table I always wondered about, wanted to own and never did (an affordable one) it would have been one of the Phillips floaters  (212) and some said a couple of the BIC's were american made, good preforming bargains.

Have you had either of these delights?

John,

The specifications for the arm are really close to the Regas. It's about 9.44 from pivot to stylus which is longer then the usual 9" arm. The headshell comes off and reminds me of the shell from a Harmon Kardon T series. Might be the same.

Yeah, I know the ADC arms were all made in Japan...perhaps it was Ito that made them (the folks that made the HK T-series arms).

Not everyone made low mass carbon fibre ones either...something both ADC and HK had with their arms.

At last, my long search might be over. I strolled into a thrift shop today, and found an ADC 1600 DD for $9.99 CDN. I hummed and hawed, went home to look it up on the internet, and promptly realized the arm alone is a hot commodity. Needless to say I immediately drove back to said thrift shop and snatched it up.

Now, here's the problem. Before I aquired my new TT, I was the proud owner of a Dual 505-2 with a brand spanking new Audio-Technica AT440MLa Dual Magnet Stereo Phono Cartridge ( it arrived in the post on Monday). This Dual is my baby, and I don't have the heart to get rid of her; but there is a new boy in town. What the hell should I do? I have this idea that I could amalgmate the two in order to have one super piece of awesome, but I think I only want to swap cartridges.

Oh, just to let you guys know, I'm powering this with a Technics SU-V707, and listening to it through my AR38s' that I modified with some 10 inch Jensen woofers I pulled out of my car- I know you will all cry stereo blasphemy, but one listen will convert you... I promise. Beggars can't be choosers, but creative minds can listen in stereo heaven.

What ever shall I do? I'm thinking about scoping out a new amp in order to have two different listening experiences in my house. That's the best I can come up with, but what would you folks recommend?

Lastly, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends: Motel Shoot is an amazing record that I suggest all of you try to get.

Get another AT440MLa cartridge! I just bought 2 more last night. Now I own 6! Plus I also ordered 2 more replacement stylus so I have 6 reserved. www.LPGEAR.com still has them for $119.

Wayner, the AT440MLa pimp.

Wayner, seeing as you have to exact same turntable and cartridge I was wondering if you could tell me what you have the counter weight set at, and what you have the dial set at. I don't have the instruction booklet for mine.

Also, do have any idea how to fix the auto return?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Who cares what it sounds like. It's beautiful to look at. I'm inspired to get a vintage table now just for the time machine effect.

All my AT440MLas track at exactly 1.5 grams. I know the recommended VTF is 1.4, I just had to be different. Actually I thought I heard slight mistracking on high energy tracks with the slightly less weight. I'm really happy with this setting.

Does that Dual plinth have a tapered base similar to the old empires? If so pretty darn cool looking

these turntables suck big-time, imho.  one of the happiest days of my life up to that point, was when i literally threw my dual 1229 turntable into a dumpster.  it never really worked right, starting less than a year after i bought it; and, since the $50 belt drive p.o.s. plastic pioneer that replaced it was so much better, in all regards - pitch definition, detail, you name it - tossing the 1229 into the dumpster was a truly pleasurable act.

tisk, tisk, tisk....I have a 1229 that works great.  It needed some long overdue maintenance when I got it--and I may have been lucky that some problems parts had not been mistreated before I got it--but it works terrifically.  I traded away a pretty good (non-plastic) Pioneer after I refurbed the Dual.

my 1229 was purchased brand-new; from the start, its speed (in)accuracy was there for all to see, on its built-in strobe...  this was before i started having issues w/its automatic functions...

Yes, that's right. Now I have seemed to have acquired another table. This one is very interesting! It's a table made by United Audio (Deutches United Audio, Limited), or DUAL (I believe was the abbreviations), and the model is the 1215.

This is a table that features the very interesting rim drive! If you remove the turntable, you will discover the usual motor drive, but it doesn't have pulleys. It insted, has a "friend" that is a large rubber rim drive coupler. The motor drive contacts the rim drive, which supplies motion to the inner rim of the platter.

The underside is a mechanical engineers heaven with a maze of linkages and moving mechanisms. I love this kind of shit! Well, it was in a garage attic for a time and needs a little TLC on contacts and things like that. But with no work at all, we have the platter spinning at a nice even speed. The first record played in stereo, but lost one channel soon after, just due to corrosion of contacts. The table is probably at least 35 years old...give it a break. Anyway, nice walnut base, topside is almost perfect. A fun restoration project to get me thru the rest of the winter!

Wayner  :D

that was the first table I ever owned! They also sold that same table with a wood framed top (looked a lot like a VPI 16.5 but smaller. Your right about the mechanical nighmare underneath
