I am interested in improving the quality of redbook playback from my Denon 1600, which only has TOS Link digital out. I'd like to get both a DAC as well as a jitter correlator that will also do Coax/TOS Link conversion. While I am using the 1600 now, I expect some day to buy a CD jukebox.

I know the DACs that are in my price range so no problem there but would alike to hear from anyone who has any experience with jitter devices in the range of, say $200-$250, particularly if they've been used with either the TubeDac or dAck!

Much obliged

Personal Experience:

The jitter boxes in your price range are somewhat limited -- particularly with the requirements you offer.  I can't speak for the matter of linkage with the DAC's you have in mind but I can offer you an Audio Alchemy DTI 2.0 at the bottom end of your price request.  It has TOSlink in (but please spend a little on the cable itself for the hookup) and on the out -- TOSlink again as well as BNC for a SPDIF connect.  It does make a difference in tandem with SOME DACs (I've only listened to a couple with this device.  If you could spring for a few more coins you could get a DTI Pro 32 (also an Audio Alchemy piece).  If you're interested in the DTI 2.0 with its upgraded power unit -- message me and we'll see if we can strike a deal.

Others will probably have other offerings of information as well so keep checking this post for their valuable input as well.

I used to use a Monarchy DIP with the Smart D/IO DAC that I used to have.  It seemed to work well.  The improvement in the sound was subtle but real.  I can't remember the details anymore though.

i tried a gw-labs dsp between my aiwa xc37m  & my modded art di/o, & it was fine - as long as i used the 44.1 output.  upsampling to 96khz really was harsh, edgy & glary.  it's a good ting audio advisor has a 30-day return policy, cuz it certainly wasn't worth the money when used yust as a coax/toslink conwerter.  (afaik, the gwlabs ting is the monarchy dip & monarchy upsampler combined in one box.)

i ended up w/a radio design labs repeater/amplifier for ~$90, from fullcompass.com (joel @ x1116).  it is completely transparent.  and, if ya ever get a second coax-out cd transport in the future, ya can run 'em both into the same dac w/this - it will default to which ever input has signal...
