A talented guy. He is also very shy/introverted, which is a surprise when you know all his work.

He hosted and performed on SNL this past weekend.  My wife wasn't aware he played and was sitting there the whole time waiting for the joke.

I remember being awed his banjo playing every time I listened to my tape of Let's Get Small.  Steve did a routine on there that was all about the Banjo, that ended (if I remember right) with the banjo being the one thing that could have saved Nixon...  at wich point he rips into a blistering rendition of Foggy Mountain Breakdown.  Great stuff.

Nothing like winning a Grammy for Best Comedy Album, then later winning for Best Country Instrumental Performance.   :o   I remember seeing him and his banjo on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, and then later learned he was one of their main comedy writers.  He then hit the scene with the arrow through the head, and all was history.  Personally, I've always loved his comedy ("do you have any beige wine?";  "obsequious, purple and clairvoyant") and work...until recently.  The Panther movies are brutally sad.

He's quite a magician, juggler and animal balloonist too.

I saw him live in Detroit just prior to (or at the time of?) his release of Let's Get Small. I never laughed so hard, and for so long in my life. "My grandmother called ..." OMG!

It must have been my first big concert, Let's get small, back in 78? He played serious banjo for the whole first half of the concert, took an intermission, then came out and put a cadillac in his nose. Amazing performer. Looking fwd to the new movie, starts this Friday, right?

Steve Martin is a big friend of John McEuen, long time banjo player for the Dirt Band.  I heard once that they took banjo lessons from the same teacher as kids.  Here is al link to McEuen's web site where he talks about Steve and the new album that McEuen produced.

"Grandpa bought a rubber."
:rotflmao:  That was either my first or second piece of vinyl (much to the dismay of my parents) back in the 70's.
Remember "Casa de pe pe".......?

Interestingly, Steve Martin just did some banjo playing on the Colbert Report last night!  :)

Here's a link to it...
