What's the price point?  MSRP or whatever?

I had the integrated 840a at my place the other day. The person who bought my timepieces had brought it with him. From my limited time with them, they sounded very good. I'd think that the separates would be a step up.

FYI - I deal Cambridge equipment, so PM me if you need prices on these.  I can save you about 20% off list on whatever you need.   :D

I heard an 840A+640C, driving a pair of ugly Focal speakers at a Tweeter.  I really have no idea if it was "good" or not, given the unfamiliar/weird speakers.  If I had a bit of money, and about 5 fewer tube amps, I'd buy an 840A+C combination without even thinking about it.  The new 840 preamp looks awesome, too, and I suspect the amp is a serious piece of equipment.  Their entire product line really has my attention - probably my first choice for solid state.

Hi all,

first post on the board.

I've recently bought a 840C and A driving some B&W 683s.

I love them but have been looking at the power amp with green eyes, would I be right in assuming it will only 'work' with the 840e?

Many thanks in advance.

Well,

the guy in Richer Sounds was fantastic, despite my 840A been well out of it's 30 day satisfaction guarantee, he gave me a full refund against the 840 W and E.....

Hopefully picking them up tomorrow.

if anyone out there is reading this I have a problem!

After 2 days I lost the sound from one speaker. The power amp's 'warning lights' started to flash continuously ( even after switching off for a few minutes ) so I assumed something had gone wrong with the 840W so the guys in the shop changed it without question.

I plumbed in the new 840W and same problem.

Tried my speakers with an old amp, working fine.

Tried the cd player through the old amp, again fine.

Started looking at the cabling, to cut a long story short........ it seems that either my xlr 'out' from the cd or the xlr 'in' on my pre-amp is the culprit as using rca cables works fine.

I tried changing the xlr cables with spares and same result.

I'm going into the shop after work tomorrow to see what they suggest!
