Wow - Ethiopia Kembata Grade 4 Dry-Process

I got a 1 lb bag of these green beans as part of the 4lb sampler when I ordered my roaster.

If I had not roasted the raw green beans myself, I would have sworn this was a flavored coffee! I roasted it a my friends house and she ground it finely and made coffee in her standard drip coffee maker. The roast went well as usual - in the 6 minutes yo0u could see the green beans go through their gradual color change, hear the first crack and I stopped it just into the first second crack I heard. The beans roasted remarkably evenly, to a nice coffee brown. Full City is actually a lighter roast than most are used to because most bean are roasted to a Vienna or French roast where there is more charring, and you can get a consistent burnt flavor.

Wow! I was expecting that "coffee" flavor but what I got was pretty much the description given by Sweet Marias on the bag label, which I usually consider to be an exageration! In this case it was very accurate! At $5.20/lb I will definitely get some of this before it is gone. Like wine, coffee is going to be different every year.

Yeah, I really fell for Ethiopian beans as well.  So far, they've always had that nice spicy flavor to it.  I've also been learning to vary the roast on the same beans as well.  At first I had a tendency to over roast my beans, I was losing alot of flavor from the bean.  But again, Sweet Maria's is usually right on with the suggested roast.

  enjoy the bean!
