Moving FLAC Files From One NAS to Another NAS
« on: 29 Jan 2009, 10:37 pm »
When I ripped my 3000 CD library onto my nas drive, I started the process using EAC.  I switched part way through to dBpoweramp.  All files are ripped in FLAC.

The problem is that EAC and dBpoweramp catalogued files differently.  I would like to know if there is a way to rip my existing flac files to a second nas drive and have the metadata updated so all the files are catalogued the same way?

I want to do this using flac encoding.  If I need different software to do this, that is OK.

Datman,

Unfortunately I don't have any insight into the issue, but wondered whether you set up, or know if you can set up a media player to run directly on your NAS (foobar, monkey media, etc) to read the flac files and output a digital stream directly to a DAC.  If so can you explain what I need to look for in a NAS as far as processor, operating system, etc.  Thanks and good luck with the file transfer and consolidation.

I am running SqueezeCenter as my media player.  I do  not think it is possible to connect a dac directly to a nas drive, especially since some drives (mine included) only communicate through an ethernet connection.  That having been said, there is a new nas music server that does use a usb connection, but I am not certain of the brand.  It might work as you want it to.

Thanks.  I thought I might have seen NAS with USB outs but I could be wrong - I've set up squeezebox and standalone dac systems with PC's but am way behind the ball on servers.  Do you know whether there are simple server types with sufficient processing capabilities to run something like Foobar and output digital through USB to a Benchmark DAC?  It would be great if I could control such a configuration wirelessly through my router and laptop.

By cataloged, do you mean the tagging is different?

If you just need to change the tags use:

That is exactly what I meant.  Thanks for the information about Tag & Rename.  I really do have my work cut out for me.
