Death Metal!

No one really mentions metal here in the forum...
Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery... With Mikael from Opeth on vox, you know it's good.
Origin - Antithesis... All of their songs hover at around 190 bpm. I don't think that anyone plays as fast & brutal as well as these guys.
What metal do you guys like?

I like Metallica. Their new album is a hit!
Well, at least to me and my son.

Bloodbath, that pushes the limit for me. It's just too wild for me.

Origin is so hyper I can only take a song or two at a time, but they are pretty impressive players. I like Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, Atheist, Death, old Obituary, older Malevolent Creation, Sinster, Deicide, Phantasm, Usurper (only with General Diabolical Slaughter of course, how they continued without his voice is beyond me) Macabre, Suffocation (pretty much just Human Waste, though) Kataklysm etc. One of the more modern DM bands I actually like is Vital Remains. Akercocke isn't bad either, love the suits. Also Deranged "Flesh Rebel" may be one of the best DM songs of all time. The thing that puts me off about death metal is the goddamn horrible production values they come up with. Nowhere else will you find worse sounding drum tracks than in death metal. Apparently the notion that loud, obnoxious and noisy bands should instead sound controlled and contained has taken root, so we're left with clicky clicky clicky plastic sounds all the damn time. Drives me batty. And there's no escape when you see a band live, either. They'll put the shitty sampled sounds on there too. *sigh*

Check out Black Market Hero, Lamb of God, 5 Finger Death Punch, Straight Line Stitch, Ach Enemy, Becoming the Archetype, Demon Hunter, Dragonforce, In Flames, Edguy, Bullet For My Valentine.
Not all "Death Metal" but lots of good music

My 18 year old prep cook, (fundamentalist christian upbringing
) brings in all kinds
of DM into my restaurant kitchen. So far the cream for me has been Lamb of God and Job For Cowboy.
The production values seem pretty sterile on some of this stuff buy the growlers are amazing.
I've been introducing him to some old stuff like reign in blood, number of the beast etc.

I like Opeth and In Flames in small doses. Number of the Beast is epic, but not DM. I am not down with cookie monster vocals.
I like straight singing metal and not death metal, typically.

I like Funeral Doom pretty well. Skepticism and Virgin Black are great bands in the genre.

Not DM, but Type O Negative have always had good sonics.
Their first album "Slow, Deep, and Hard" is wicked.
Opeth is amazing, great music and great vocals.
Check out Christ Inversion, way evil and hard music.

But live... hip hop sucks... There is nothing like seeing flawless musicianship on the level of virtuosity, especially at a club that sounds good. For all of the slack that Metal gets about the production values, well, lacking any value. I have seen some live shows with killer sound.
