RM 9 SE balanced option
« on: 25 Jan 2009, 06:10 am »
Roger,

Can the RM 9 SE be configured for single ended and balanced inputs (like the RM 200)?  Additionally, what is the 8 and 4 ohm power output for the RM 9 SE.  Thanks.

dawkimi the power output at 8 ohms is 162 watts and at 4 ohms it is 200. i am not sure about the balanced option. roger only built 18 or 19 RM9SE's and he has only a few left. it simply craps all over the RM9mk1 and 2's. i know i had a mk2 and i have a SE now driving my Merlin VSM MXe's.

rbwalt: thanks for fielding the power question.

As to balanced inputs, if one wants good common mode rejection (CMRR = 100 dB in the RM-200) it has to be done with a solid-state device or an input transformer. With a tube input the CMRR will not be more than about 20 dB and be very dependent on the tube gain and gain difference between the two halves. There could be a balance pot to allow the user to improve this number by nulling the cable hum audibly.
