Ok, time for an update. I've been down for the count for about a week with the nastiest flu I've ever had, so sorry to keep any of you waiting.
I now have pictures, but I couldn't find the USB cable to put them on the computer to update my post. Will get to that soon.
I have also researched the history of the speakers more thoroughly. They were bought new from Zu by Serious Hifi in Raleigh, NC about a year and a half ago. They do not have the most recent driver upgrades, but otherwise they're full Mark IV version Druids. I was actually under the impression they had had the driver upgrades, but I wouldn't fully chalk it up to Serious misleading me. I didn't ask the question.
So, for the sake of full disclosure and reasonableness, and recognizing someone would have to spend a net of $600 ($800 upfront with a $200 rebate upon return of old drivers to Zu) to bring these up to the Mk IV/08 spec, I'm reducing the asking price to a cool $1550 plus shipping. The way I see it, this is an excellent and cheap way to get your feet wet with the Zu sound and if you like what you hear upgrade to the new drivers with the Zu kit.
Another update is that I thoroughly cleaned them today and found the light scratching removed in the cleaning. As far as I can tell, these units are spotless. No scratching or visible blemishes. The drivers are a little dusty is all and I don't have any canned air to use on them (Zu's recommended cleaning approach for the drivers).
Sooo, wait for my pictures or just trust in my record on Audiogon/Ebay under the same username. These are pretty choice physical and sonic condition.
