Best I've used are the MAM-A Gold. Archival quality (so they say) but at around a buck per they are pretty pricey.

I've been using the black Memorex CD-Rs.  Where do these rank in the scheme of things?

Also, where do the +1s and +2s come from?  I've never seen that before, but I'm also a cultural illiterate.

The +1/2/3...  is a show of support for a statement, a web forum way of saying "what he said".

A little bit of trivia - the "black" CDs are actually a very dark red.  You can hold them up to a light and see red shine through.

I used to like the black Memorex but found too many drives that spit them up, for whatever reason.

The "+1"s and so on are like "I second the comment" or "me too".

I see.  I've just never seen the +s before.  Regarding the trivia about the "black" CDs, you are correct.  I never would have imagined until I just took a look for myself.

It is said the "black" cd-r's don't last that long. The Gold MA 's are good for 200 years.

Thanks for the replies!

I have will look into the Taiyo Uden discs.  I have used Taiyo  Uden before and this new disc looks promising. The MAM look great but I do not believe that me burner is of high quality yet.

I have not had great longevity w/Memorex Black, degradation of sound after time and easily scratched. But that was over 4 years ago.

Ted B, what's your setup when you go for your best burns?

I use Nero and my run on the mill DVD-R/cd burner in my Dell tower (TSST TS-H653B).

another question

I need CD-R blanks for some archiving.  I was ready to buy the MAM-A/Mitsui 1-12x Gold Audio Master Discs recommended but they are only 650MB. I do have some CDs that are over 650MB.

So, is there another brand that is almost as good as MAM-A, but 700MB?

Hmm......I just did a random check on CD sizes in my library and see that Madredeus, Antologia CD is 785.6MB.

Thanks, Ed

Yes, it is.  And most of us here are working towards having LESS discs.  aa

I use Taiyo Yuden. Most archival grade discs play with more errors than these but are supposed to last much longer - they say 300 years - so I use Taiyo Yudens for masters and burn a Verbatim Ultralife Gold Archival grade which uses gold and silver for reflectivity for archival purposes.

Here one of a few sites where this is gone into in depth:
